Taco night just got wayyy better thanks to this homemade taco seasoning. You most likely have all of these spices on hand, which makes this seasoning so simple to throw together. It's perfect on taco tomatoes, cheesy taco casserole, and in cheesy chicken pasta! Honestly, this could probably go on any veggies or protein and would make it taste amazing. It's a little bit spicy and smokey with so much more flavor and will make all of your dishes taste so much better.
We are huge proponents of the premixed stuff. Its convenient and doesn't just go well with beef (see our Taco Lime Shrimp). But there are a few huge advantages to making your own. First thing, its cheaper and, if you buy good spices, better quality than what you find in the store. Second, its customizable! Don't love the cumin? Take it down a bit! Want it spicer? Add some cayenne to feel the burn. Lastly, you know exactly what goes into it, no additives and preservatives, just spice!
If you have any left over, store in an airtight container, and this should keep for about a year or so from when you bought the oldest spice used in the mix. If you get inspired to make more of your own spice mixes, you can try out our favorite rib rub and adobo seasoning.
