Attention cheese boards everywhere: Fried goat cheese bites are coming to steal your thunder. Coated in crispy herby bread crumbs and drizzled with honey, these creamy, melt-in-your-mouth morsels will capture the hearts of party guests everywhere.
Freezing the goat cheese for 30 minutes before slicing will make it easiest to get those perfectly round bites, but don’t fret if your goat cheese slices look wonky or break apart a bit. The soft and naturally sticky texture of the cheese makes it easy to round out flat edges or even reattach chunks of goat cheese that may have flaked off. That said, don’t stress too much about getting them to look perfect—once they’re fried and drizzled with honey, they won’t last long enough for anyone to critique how perfectly shaped they are.

How are we frying these bites?
These goat cheese bites are pan-fried, which means that we’re frying them in a pan on the stove in just enough oil to reach halfway up their sides. Pan-frying is ideal for these bites since it ensures they get crispy on all sides—similar to the way they would if we were deep-frying—while also protecting them from falling apart in the process.
How do I get rid of that pale patch in the center of my goat cheese bites?
It happens to all of us! If you find that the center of your goat cheese bites are paler than the edges after you’ve flipped them, grab a metal spoon and gently pour a little hot oil from the pan over the top of the bites. That should help crisp up and color any pale spots.

- Yields:

- Prep Time:
- 5 mins
- Total Time:
- 1 hr
Ingredients
- 1
(8-oz.) log goat cheese
- 1/3 c.
all-purpose flour
- 1
large egg
- 1 c.
panko bread crumbs
- 1 tsp.
dried thyme
- 1/2 tsp.
freshly ground black pepper
- 1 c.
vegetable oil
Kosher salt
- 1 tbsp.
honey
- 1 tbsp.
fresh thyme leaves
Directions
- Step 1Freeze goat cheese 30 minutes. Meanwhile, pour flour into a small shallow dish. In a second shallow dish, beat egg until blended. In a third shallow dish, combine bread crumbs, dried thyme, and pepper. With clean fingers, rub about half of bread crumbs together, breaking down into finer crumbs.
- Step 2Line a baking sheet with parchment. Unwrap goat cheese and slice into 12 rounds about 1/2" thick. Working one at a time, coat in flour, then dip in beaten egg, allowing any excess to drip off. Roll in seasoned bread crumbs, firmly pressing to adhere. Arrange breaded goat cheese on prepared sheet and refrigerate while oil is heating.
- Step 3Line a large plate with paper towels. In a medium skillet over medium heat, heat oil until an instant-read or deep-fry thermometer registers 350° (a bread crumb should sizzle when dropped in).
- Step 4Gently drop 4 breaded goat cheese bites into oil and fry until golden brown on the bottom, about 30 seconds. Using a fork, turn and continue to fry until golden brown on the second side, about 30 seconds longer. Transfer to prepared plate; immediately season with salt. Repeat with remaining goat cheese, adjusting heat as needed to keep oil hot.
- Step 5Arrange goat cheese bites on a platter. Drizzle with honey and top with fresh thyme.
