Justin Sullivan is the Assistant Food Editor for Delish, where he helps test, develop, and (of course) taste recipes like one-pot meals, easy desserts, and everything in between. He has worked in professional kitchens across New York, but his favorite role will always be as matzoh ball sous chef to his grandma. He loves diners and being from New Jersey, and when he’s not prepping and testing hundreds of Delish recipes, Justin travels the globe as the world’s foremost chicken finger critic.
Something about the bittersweet, botanical flavors of a perfectly made Negroni always make me think of winter. This classic Italian cocktail amps up the notes of juniper in gin with sweet vermouth and herbaceous Campari. The best part? No crazy ratio to memorize. Just stir equal parts of all three and that’s it!
Negronis can technically be served straight up, but ice helps to mellow out the slight bitterness of the drink, and of course, keeps it cold. And while there are tons of variations, my favorite is the newly popular Mezcal Negroni. Swapping the gin for mezcal adds a smokiness that delivers a whole new dimension of deliciousness.
