Buffalo sauce makes frequent appearances on our game day spread. Whether it's classic wings, buffalo chicken pizza, or fried artichoke hearts, we'll take any excuse to devour this staple sauce—what better way to do that than in a shareable party dip? Filled with all the flavors you love, here at Delish, this hot and cheesy dip has become a must-have Super Bowl appetizer.
What's in buffalo chicken dip?
The main components of this staple dip are shredded rotisserie chicken, cream cheese, shredded Cheddar, buffalo sauce and ranch dressing. To take things really over the top, we also added blue cheese crumbles and chopped chives.
Top tips for buffalo chicken dip:
— Make it creamier. This dip gets extra thick and creamy from the block of full-fat cream cheese, but if it's not your desired consistency, you can add a few more tablespoons of cream cheese for a thicker dip.
— Play with the heat. We added a few dashes of hot sauce for some added heat, but feel free to leave that out (or add more!) to change up the heat level.
— Switch out the chicken. We like using store-bought rotisserie chicken, but you can also poach chicken breasts at home and then shred them if you prefer.
— Use your favorite cheese. Cheddar is our go-to cheese for this dip, but gouda and fontina would also work well.
What should I serve with buffalo chicken dip?
This dip goes well with just about anything. Some of our favorites: chips, crackers, slices of a toasted baguette, and raw veggies—carrots and celery especially.
Can I make it ahead?
Absolutely! For the most delicious results, we recommend assembling the dip in your baking dish (you can even top it with the cheese) and then storing it in the refrigerator, fully covered. When you want to serve it, just pop it in the oven and you’ll have this crowdpleaser on the table in less than 30 minutes! If you're looking for another make ahead option, try our Crockpot buffalo chicken dip!
How do I store it?
If you manage to have any leftovers, you can store them in an airtight container in the fridge for around 4 days.
Reheating.
When you're ready to enjoy this dip again, simply reheat in the microwave if you have smaller portions, or place in an oven-safe dish and reheat at 350° until warm.
